Sleep timing

Sleep midpoint can matter even when total sleep looks fine.

Midpoint is a way to describe sleep timing. daygauge shows your sleep against your usual window, so you can see when it moved and how far.

The question

Start with what your own data can show.

Sleep duration alone misses a common pattern: the same total sleep can feel different when timing shifts late.

Sleep midpoint gives you a way to compare rhythm against your own usual, without pretending to diagnose sleep disorders.

Quick answer

daygauge shows your sleep timing against your usual window. Sleep midpoint is not a Life Index input.

Quick definition

What is sleep midpoint?

Sleep midpoint is the halfway point between falling asleep and waking. If you sleep from 23:30 to 07:30, your sleep midpoint is 03:30.

The useful part is comparison. A single midpoint is trivia; one that moves 40 minutes later than your usual is worth noticing.

Example

Sleep window: 00:20-07:40. Sleep midpoint: 04:00.

Your usual

Your last 8 Tuesdays averaged a 03:18 midpoint.

Difference

Last night was 42 minutes later than your Tuesday usual.

Limit

Timing context only. This is not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

In daygauge

How the app handles this.

Signal
daygauge shows your sleep timing against your usual window. You can see timing drift and weekend shift, and try a Quest such as holding a consistent sleep window. The Life Index uses your sleep minutes, not your sleep midpoint.
Confidence
Missing readings lower confidence instead of creating false certainty. When a reading is not available, daygauge says so rather than filling the gap.
Weekly Review
Weekly Review shows what changed, what held and what to try next.Your first Weekly Review is free. Later reviews are part of Pro.
Illustrative example

What this can look like in the app.

Sleep timing: you fell asleep 38 minutes later than your usual.

Example
Confidence

A pattern is only called proven after it repeats on your own paired days. Missing readings lower confidence.

Next move

Try one small change, log it in Quick Log, then compare your next readings.

Example 1

Weekend drift: Saturday and Sunday sleep started 71 minutes later than on weekdays.

Example 2

Quest idea: hold a consistent sleep window for a few days, then compare your readings.

Research

Further reading.

These studies describe groups of people. They help explain the topic, but they cannot tell you what will happen to you.

Research context only. daygauge does not diagnose, treat, prevent or predict disease risk. Personal medical concerns belong with a qualified clinician.

Limits

What daygauge does not do.

  • It does not diagnose, treat or prevent disease, or predict your risk of it.
  • It does not claim one habit caused a result. It shows the pattern, how confident it is and what else changed.
